Is There a Difference Between a Class B Motor Home and a Conversion Van?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

While there is not much difference between a class b motor home and conversion van, there is a small yet subtle difference. This difference will affect the price of the van or motor home.

Class B Motor Home
When a motor home is built using a cargo van chassis by a licensed up fitter, it is considered a class b. In addition, it must have installed places to sleep, eat, and include a bathroom. The class b motor home will also need fresh water and grey water tanks.

However, if it has all this stuff and it has been cut all the way to the floor and rebuilt, it is considered a Class C. These will come directly from the manufacturer, i.e., Ford or Chevy.

Conversion Van
Generally, conversion vans have some but not all the luxuries of a class b motor home. The van is converted to give the users more comfort. This could mean a sleeping area, a TV, some carpet and even an air conditioning unit.

In addition, conversion vans typically have custom paint jobs. The vans may also have a raised rood, custom wheels, leather captain chairs and more. Basically, anything you can think of to make driving more comfortable is added.

Camper Vans
Camper van is a generic term used to describe a van that has been altered to help in camping. However, there are no commercially sold camper vans in the U.S., although a Class B motor home can be considered a camper van.

Typically, a camper van is just a homemade conversion van. The van may have anything added from sleeping quarters to a full out conversion van.

Whether you purchase a camper van, conversion van, or a class b motor home, you will want to look around. You can find a litany of new and used motor homes to choose from at Beaudry RV.

How a Fifth Wheel Opens Up a World of Adventure

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Have you ever wanted to pack up and travel down Route 66? Is the only thing stopping you a lack of an RV or fifth wheel? Route 66 is too good to miss. If you are truly adventurous, then you need to stop putting it off and get yourself a new or used RV. Then and only then can you get your kicks on Route 66.

Buying Used Saves You Money
For some reason, it never occurs to some people to buy a used motor home, travel trailer, fifth wheel or what have you. It just does not dawn on them that this is a cheaper way to get everything you want in a RV for a fraction of the price.

For those who are willing to go a little smaller and buy used, you just may find that a smaller used RV can come with a lot of the accessories you want and need at the same price as a larger new RV. If you buy from a consignment lot (a lot that sells RVs for the owner), then you can save even more money.

Hitting the Road
Once you buy your new or used fifth wheel, you will be ready to start traveling. Before you leave, make sure you know how to hook up the clean water, empty grey and black water, and hook up the electricity. Once that is set, you can start your trip down Route 66.

When you start traveling, you will not want to miss some very historic sites. Below is a list of just a few sites along the very historic road.

  • Grand Canyon in Arizona
  • Petrified Forest in Arizona
  • Old Town Albuquerque in New Mexico
  • Cadillac Ranch in Texas
  • Meramec Cavern in Missouri
  • Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Illinois

Now that you have a RV, your choices are limitless. Route 66 is just one of many new adventures waiting ahead of you and your fifth wheel.

Travel Trailers: Camping and Site Seeing

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Recently we discovered the absolute luxury of small travel trailers. Now this may sound like an oxymoron but a small travel trailer can be very comfy. My family can’t imagine how we ever lived without one.

Small Size Means Easy Travel
I never wanted a RV because of the size. I thought they were too big and didn’t really want to drive one around town. I either wanted to stay in a hotel, so we could go sightseeing or go camping and commune with nature. I most certainly did not want to drive a huge motor home around a city anytime I wanted to sightsee.

Then we came across another couple with a pop-up. That pop-up trailer had everything that I wanted and yet was still small. We decided right then and there to start looking for our own trailer.

Small Size – Big Comforts
When we started looking around, we came across travel trailers, pop-ups and toy haulers. Those toy haulers were temping but we really didn’t have any toys to haul. However, a travel trailer did catch our eye.

This thing had a couple of beds, a bathroom, a shower, a refrigerator and a small kitchen. We fell in love right there. Since, we were looking at used trailers the price was unbelievable. The trailer was only $5,000. We were so surprised that we bought it immediately.

Traveling in Style
Now when we go on weekend getaways or long vacations, we hitch up the trailer to the truck and take off. We no longer have to choose between camping or a hotel. If we want to site see, then we leave the trailer at the campground and take off in the truck. It really is the best of both worlds.
